The Data Intelligence Lab, led by Professor Hwanjo Yu in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has been selected for the prestigious "AI Star Fellowship Support Program," sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP).

Under this initiative, our lab will spearhead the research consortium for the project titled "Extreme AI: Resilient and Generalizable AI for Extreme Environments." The consortium—bringing together nine participating laboratories—has secured 11 billion KRW in national research funding from 2026 to 2031 (over a span of six years). Together, the research group aims to develop next-generation core technologies, notably Robot Foundation Models designed for extreme conditions, ensuring high reliability, generalizability, and safety in demanding real-world environments.

The AI Star Fellowship Support Program is a national initiative dedicated to fostering world-class AI researchers and reinforcing South Korea's competitiveness in foundational AI technologies. Through this milestone grant, our lab and consortium partners will continue to expand the frontiers of foundational AI and robotics, while cultivating top-tier AI research talent ready to drive real-world industrial impact.

데이터 인텔리전스 연구실(유환조 교수), 과기부 AI최고급신진연구자지원사업 선정… 2031년까지 110억 원 규모 로봇 AI 원천기술 연구단 이끈다

컴퓨터공학과 데이터 인텔리전스 연구실(Data Intelligence Lab)의 유환조 교수가 과학기술정보통신부와 정보통신기획평가원(IITP)이 추진하는 ‘AI최고급신진연구자지원사업(AI Star Fellowship Support Program)’의 연구책임자로 최종 선정됐다. 유환조 교수 연구팀이 이끄는 본 연구단(총 9개 연구실 참여)은 2026년부터 2031년까지 6년간 총 110억 원 규모의 연구비를 지원받아 차세대 로봇 AI 원천기술 개발과 최고급 AI 연구인력 양성에 본격 착수한다.

‘AI최고급신진연구자지원사업’은 세계적 수준의 AI 연구자를 육성하고 국가 AI 원천기술 경쟁력을 강화하기 위해 추진되는 핵심 지원 사업이다.

이번 사업을 통해 우리 연구실은 ‘극한환경에서 고신뢰 일반화 가능한 로봇 인공지능(Extreme AI: Resilient and Generalizable AI for Extreme Environments)’ 과제를 주도하며, 로봇 파운데이션 모델 등 실제 산업 현장에서 요구되는 신뢰성·일반화·안전성을 갖춘 차세대 원천기술을 확보할 계획이다. 데이터 인텔리전스 연구실은 이번 선정을 계기로 로봇 AI 분야의 핵심 연구 역량을 한층 강화하고, 실제 환경에 적용 가능한 혁신적인 기술 확보와 글로벌 AI 연구 인재 양성에 앞장설 계획이다
